Ans. Mercury < Mars < Venus < Earth < Neptune < Uranus < Saturn < Jupiter.

Q2. Name the planets according to their distance from the sun.

Ans. Mercury < Venus < Earth < Mars < Jupiter < Saturn < Uranus < Neptune.

Q3. Why do the planets not twinkle like stars at night?

Ans. Planets do not have their own light like stars but they are very close to earth when we compare with the distance of stars. So the light reflected from planets is stronger than light rays coming from the stars, so planets do not twinkle like stars.

Q4. Why the earth is called the blue planet?

Ans. Most of the surface of the earth is covered with water of ocean, due to which when seen from the space earth looks blue in color, so it is called blue planet.

Q1. What is the significance of the sun in the solar system?

Ans. Sun is in the center of the solar system and its huge gravity keeps all the bodies of solar system together, so sun is important for the existence of solar system.

Q2. How is the earth a unique planet in the solar system?

Ans. Existence of life makes Earth a unique planet, it is because of:-

-          Existence of water in all forms makes life possible on earth.

-          Existence of Atmosphere which protects earth from harmful rays of sun and it is rich in oxygen to support life on earth.

-          The rotation of earth on its axis protects earth from extreme cold and hot temperature which makes temperature Favorable for the existence of life.

Q3. Write at least one characteristic of each planet in the solar system.

Ans.       Mercury- It is the smallest planet of solar system which is nearest to sun.

                Venus- It is the hottest planet of the Solar system.

                Earth- Existence of life

                Mars- Red planet with two moons

                Jupiter – it is the largest gaseous gaint.

                Saturn- it has highest number of moons.

                Uranus – it has rings around its equator.

                Neptune- it takes longest time to revolve around the sun.

Q4. Describe the phases of the moon.

Ans. There are two Phases of Moon:-

-          Waxing- It starts from New Moon and ends at Full Moon. During this period size of moon keeps on increasing.

-          Waning- it starts from full moon and ends at new moon. During this period size of moon keeps on decreasing.
